Until I got married, I was in great financial shape — no debt, plenty of savings. But, at 22, along with acquiring a brilliant, loving, and supportive husband, I got $100,000+ in student loan debt (from his 10 years of school getting a PhD), $8,000 in car debt and $800 in car debt. So on August 7, 2007, a month after our wedding, I began this blog.
My blog began as a place for me to start being responsible about spending, saving, and debt repayment. In the process, I discovered the personal finance blogging community and have appreciated all the support and opportunity to learn more about all facets of financial planning.
Currently, we have paid off the entire credit card debt and have a repayment plan which should allow us to save money and pay off debt at more than the minimums. I could use lots of thoughts, prayers, and encouragement, but I’m also happy that Micah and I are learning financial accountability so young so that we can have a more prosperous future.
The title “Finance for a Freelance Life” comes from my current work situation. Besides working part-time as a county library clerical aide (I’ve been urged by coworkers in circulation and reference to apply for full-time work in those respective areas, but the HR rep tells me it’s currently impossible due to a hiring freeze) and working part-time as a newborn hearing screener, I do various freelance projects to work off our debt.
So if you’re ever looking for an editor, writer, or blog consultant/web designer, let me know!
Thanks for taking the time to join us on our journey.

Have you considered PayPerPost, Smorty or LoudLaunch? I’d recommend PayPerPost.

Nice blog and I was interested in your migration to your own domain.
Some questions:
1. When you got your own domain name (ie without wordpress or blogpost in the address)- did you get a hosting service? If so, can you recommend who?

Hi Mrs. Micah, just started reading your blog, and I love it!
You seemed alot more mature than 22… I’m 22 right now and sometimes I honestly just feel like a kid.
Check out my blog if you have a chance - best of luck with whittling down your debt!
