Ever since I published about the crisis of bridesmaid dress prices, I’ve had a number of people pop up on my site looking for “coco myles.” Since it hasn’t stopped, I looked into her myself. Figured it might be useful.
As it turns out, Coco Myles appears to be a decent solution for finding inexpensive bridesmaid dresses. If the bride wants to conform to certain traditions and isn’t able to make the dresses herself, there are a number of classic looks done by Coco Myles which seem to be priced under $150 (but over $125).
In my book, that’s still a lot of money to spend on a dress, especially when you probably need alterations, shoes, hair, etc.
The price is theoretically so low because they only sell online and thus you don’t have to worry about store pricing.
Fun things about it:
- You can choose skirt, bodice and color with a mix-and-match so that way you can have bridesmaids with the same colors but different bodices to suit their shapes. Or you can have the same dress with different colors for a rainbow look.
- She does inexpensive celebrity-inspired designs. Same $150 ish or lower price. Not bad.
- Because the dresses (including celebrity dresses) can come in white, brides can get dresses at much more reasonable prices than most salons.
Less fun things:
- Prices are still over $100. It’s much more expensive than buying sundresses and possibly some prom/bridesmaid dresses on sale. There are cheaper dresses available.
- Not good variety for Jr. Bridesmaids or pregnant ones. They have one design for each which can be color-customized. Maybe it’ll introduce more variety as time goes on.
If you need need need a bridesmaid dress that looks conventional and like every other wedding but you don’t want to pay too much, this is the place to go (well, I have no idea about quality, but you only need it once). You can even get some variety. And you won’t have to pay as much.
I’m still looking for another answer for bridesmaids.

Hmm… What about ordering directly from a warehouse/factory? You’d have to do it online, so colors and the fit could be tricky. Still, that might bring the price down signifiantly.
If someone in the family can sew, that may be a good option, especially for a younger girl. I was a flower girl for my cousin’s wedding when I was about 8 years old. My mom made my dress, and it worked wonderfully and saved money!

That’s a good idea, Susan. I think Coco Myles is not unlike a warehouse factory…the site markets itself as saving money by not having to go through a secondary retailer. I bet there are cheaper ones, though.
I think for flower girls in particular, it’s much better to sew. They’ll grow out of it quite quickly and are thus even less likely than bridesmaids to reuse it. Plus, simple patterns and fabrics can really bring down the price. Cuteness counts more than fanciness. And they don’t have to match.

A friend of mine had a wedding where all the bridesmaids simply picked out any tasteful black dress they could find. It looked wonderful! Some of the gals bought clearance prom dresses and some bought off the rack from Ross.

In the UK, for a retail dress, £60 to £75 wouldn’t be too bad. I was in town just today looking at some of the (very nice) dresses in the shops - I’d say the regular prices were more like £80 to £120 ($160 to $240).
You can certainly get them cheaper, but it’s still better than mid-priced.

That might be pretty handy before too much longer. I’m definitely passing that link along to Young.

He, he, I love it
This is exactly my problem with bridesmaid dresses. Somehow brides have been completely duped by commercialism. Have some originality, ladies!

@Becky, I feel like I’ve been to a lot of weddings in the last few years and they seem to just be variations on a theme. It’s not necessarily bad, but for some people it feels like they’re putting a round peg (themselves) into a square hole (the wedding).

OK..I will be the guy here
The bridesmaid thing is really tough on people. It is too bad single look option, like tuxes w/ a slight tie or cumberbun change.
