Four days down, forever to go…

Mr. Micah suggested that title. I think it’s kind of depressing.

Quick list of achievements at work today:

  • Learned how to make an invoice batch-list and send them off by Fed-Ex.
  • Got a pretty good handle on working the copier.
  • Finished and printed the newsletter (it looks really good!).
  • Handled some work orders, including putting one in for newsletter distribution.
  • Made some maintenance calls.
  • Finished my invoice coding “cheat sheet.”
  • Read some blogs. Wait…well, I did, there it is.

Work was good this morning, I got stuff done. Most of that list. But this afternoon was pretty slow. So I read blogs, kept my eye on the work orders, and stayed by the phone in case someone called. Two people did. Oh, and I went through the company’s intranet and read all about their medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans. That was potentially useful information. Since I’m a temp-to-hire, I don’t have to fill that out yet.

As I mentioned yesterday, I can’t do this forever. So today on the metro to work, I read one of the more inspirational books I have, See Jane Write. It’s specifically about writing “chick lit,” which I find interesting, but a lot of it is just plain inspiration for writers. And since it’s engaging and fun, I like it. The goal now is to actually get “Jane” to write. Jane has so many ideas for stories and a few she’s started in the last month. What will she do first? Or will she tackle nonfiction? Well, I’m leaving that question at least until the weekend. Since the weekend starts tomorrow it’s not technically too much time, but it’s something.

For now, I’m going to go read. You have to be a reader before you can be a writer. It’s in the rules.

(though I’m actually going to write another post about something from the Happiness Project. But then I’m going to read until bed. Because it will make me happy.)

so I have to tell you a funny thing. I showed Nathan your blog the other day and he was so confused. “What? Mr. Smicah? I don’t get it,” quoth he. It took him a while to figure out that it was your blog and NOT Micah going insane and deciding to add an ’s’ to the beginning of his name.

In other news, you are awesome.

    -Mrs. Nathan
